Magazine Design: Color Scheme

After evaluating main combinations of colors I believe this color scheme is the best for my magazine in order for it to stand out. The bright blue and pink will attract more readers while the black will make wording stand out against the bright colors.

Magazine Design: Masthead

After going through many font styles, I finally figured out what I want my masthead “OTR”(On the Rise) to look like.

A potential background for my magazine cover is a gradient from bright blue to bright pink, these colors correlate with my color scheme.

Gender Representation: Male

 In Rap, male rappers are thought of the most as most rappers are males. Male rappers are mostly seen wearing expensive jewelry such as chains, watches, and earrings as seem in The Source magazine featuring Lil Baby. As wearing and having expensive items is shown to be more masculine. Men are perceived to be more superior than women. Many male rappers even find themselves in jail and their songs are used against them in court, as most male rappers rap about perverted things are things that are against the law in some ways. Their music can also influence young men to be the same as them and potential get into trouble with the law. This type of music is the new trend. Anywhere you go you are sure to hear a male rappers voice on a song rapping about something “non-family friendly”.

Rap Magazine Survey: Results Evaluation

The majority of people that responded found the magazine title OTR (on the rise) the most captivating. None of the respondents chose Wallpaper as the most captivating title. Therefore, my magazine title will be OTR (on the rise).

The results for the most memorable tagline came close with "Don't get mad, get on the rise" and "Everyone on the rise has a story" but "Everyone on the rise has a story" was chosen by the most respondents. Therefore, that will be my tagline.

The results for what feature the respondents would prefer to see included the most is tied for Interviews and Personal Photo Shoots. Therefore, I will include Interviews as the Feature.

The result for the best color scheme was Black and Yellow with the majority of votes with no votes for Red and Blue and second best at Blue, Pink, and Black. The color scheme i like did not the majority but I will still do it (Blue, Pink, and Black).

 For the results of what type of props my audience would like to see on my magazine cover, Tattoos got the magority of the votes and the least amount of votes for Grillz. Although, the majority of respondents chose Tattoos I would rather see Durags on my magazine cover so that will be the prop I include in my magazine cover.

For the question of how old my audience is, most of the respondents chose 17. Therefore, my audience mature and can comprehend any of the components included in my magazine.

For which hue is the most attractive Neon won the majority of the vote. Therefore, the hue I will chose for my magazine will be Neon/Bright colors.

Magazine Analysis and Design

For "COMPLEX" magazine, their masthead is a simple bold black. This does not really catch the eye as a masthead but leaves room for other components of the magazine cover to stand out.

In "FADER" magazine, their masthead is simple black with thinner lines than the "COMPLEX" masthead but includes a black box over the F making it the only white letter in the masthead.

 For the "XXL" magazine, their masthead has a big red box around white letters that say "XXL". this is very bright and intriguing to the eye. A masthead like this would attract more people than if it were to be a plain masthead.

These are some of my masthead ideas and how I may put them on my magazine cover as far as color and font goes. For "XXS" I chose a blue color with a classic font the light may be appealing to a wide group of people as well as the other mastheads. For "OTR" (On The Rise) I chose a purple color with a trendy font. For "RedLight" I chose to feature the word "Red" with a red color and the word "Light" with a light blue color to contrast with the red with different fonts for both. For "Clash" I chose a green color with another classic font; green is a very trendy color at the moment.
